How to use LinkedIn for job search

August 24, 2015 by Lex-Warrier in Career Guru, Job Search

If you are seriously searching for job, then LinkedIn is the right place for your job search. As compared to other social networking websites, LinkedIn is different. We would say it is more like a professional networking site, where people create a LinkedIn account for professional networking and for job search.

Therefore, it is essential to design your LinkedIn profile in a very professional manner, because the employers relay the information provided in your LinkedIn profile over the information furnished in other social networking sites. Let us try to understand how to use LinkedIn for job search.

As compared to other social networking profiles, LinkedIn profile is more or like a resume. Therefore, in other words, by creating a LinkedIn account you are nothing but writing a resume online for you. Hence, the very first step is to modify or update your LinkedIn profile to appear as professional as possible. Always upload own photo in your LinkedIn profile as your LinkedIn profile picture.

Do ensure that, the professional summary section of the LinkedIn profile is complete. Because, many of the employers does the primary short listing based on the professional summary section. Further, do not forget to update your contact details as well as your current employment details.

Once, your profile is ready, do get connected with wide variety of LinkedIn member. Also, do get connected to few of your colleagues from your present and past employer, because this will help you to get LinkedIn recommendations, which has a major role to impress your prospective employer.

Further, you can directly search for jobs and internships in LinkedIn by using the job search option available, where you can search the job based on keywords, job function, industry, location etc. However, it is always recommended to have a minimum of 50 – 100 LinkedIn connections before applying for any job. Because, the more number of connections you have more reference you may get.

If your connections are more then, the possibility of getting shared connection with the prospective employer’s recruitment manager is high. Therefore, it is recommended to have more LinkedIn connections.
